Acrylics on 40 x 30cm canvas board (50 x 40cm Framed)
As a student I spent a summer at Blackpool Pleasure Beach working as a ride operator, mostly on a ride known as The Avalanche. It was my second job of that summer; the first was at McDonald’s for three days during which I caused £11,000 of damage by destroying all of their fire doors… but that’s another tale for another time.
It was a good summer, and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it apart from the ride crashing the first time I was put in charge of it. The Health & Safety Board would quickly certify that it wasn't my fault and the only injuries were whiplash suffered by a group whose leader pointed to the possibility of financial compensation.
'Fairground Suicide' was inspired by pleasant memories of that summer working with a team of incredibly friendly and funny guys. I don’t know about the title. It just worked.
