Acrylics on 40 x 30cm canvas board (50 x 40cm Framed)
I was five years old when the movie Star Wars first arrived at the cinema. At the time of writing that's well on its way to being fifty years; half a century ago!
As a boy in the late seventies and early eighties I loved the Star Wars franchise and I watched the films whenever the opportunity presented itself. By the time I was a teenager, like many boys my age I could all but recite the movies line by line.
The idea for 'Beggar's Canyon' came to mind when I was hovering over an empty canvas with a palette of yellow paint. I was thinking of a desert landscape, and of how it would look as one travelled at speed above it, skimming the surface as if in a low flying aircraft... or on a womp rat hunt.
I have tried to capture the sense of speed and the exhilaration of low-level flight.
